Wine of the Week (January 26th)

Thelma and Louise were lookin’ to get their wine fridge stocked up before the next “polar vortex” came rollin’ in. The gals were pleased as punch when they found a couple of shelves of Illinois wines at the local wine shack. Louise let out a holler when she spotted a bottle of "Black & Blue" from Pheasant Hollow Winery. They had heard from their wine drinkin' friend Debbie who owns Off the Vine, a favorite watering hole of Thelma and Louise's, that "Black & Blue" is so darn tasty that she can't keep it on her shelves! So the gals grabbed up a bottle to satisfy their hankerin’ for a good glass of wine to get the weekend started!

Pheasant Hollow Winery is in the Shawnee Hills Region of Southern Illinois, in Whittington. The name of that there winery made Thelma and Louise think of the kinfolk back in hill country! The "Black & Blue" bottle notes say: "Our signature semi-sweet wine with the richness of your favorite berries. Ultra rich blackberry-blueberry flavor with a good blackberry finish. Winner of National Commercial Wine of the USA for 2002." Now don’t that make your mouth water?!

The winds were whippin’ real good out in the back 40. So Thelma and Louise used Mother Nature’s fridge and chilled their bottle quick on the front stoop by puttin’ it in the snow. As much as they despise snow, they were LOVING it at that moment!  The bottle chilled in under 10 minutes and -WOO HOO - was it tasty good! It was downright delicate and pleasing to the palate, and very fruity with a delicious blackberry finish.  The gals knew they would soon return to the wine shack to purchase more of this blackberry-blueberry goodness!
